The Morning Session: 

Use of Fire and Smoke Separations utilizing the 2021 IBC

Patrick Vandergriff has fifty years of experience in the construction and code related industry serving as a City Building Official, Community Development Supervisor, acting State Fire Marshal to name a few.  Patrick is a graduate of Northwestern University with degrees in Civil Structural Engineering with a minor in Business Administration.  Patrick has been instructing with ICC since 1982 teaching multiple disciplines including structural plan review, non-structural plan review fire plan review and building codes and inspection.  

The Afternoon Session:

Fire Suppression in Existing Buildings 

Presented by: 

Nick Eschner currently services the Skokie Fire Department as the Deputy Fire Chief of Operations, where he oversees the Fire Prevention Bureau.  Mr. Eschner received a bacholor’s degree in Fire Protection & Safety Engineering and a master’s degree in Fire Administration and Emergency Management from Oklahoma State University.  He has over 20 years of experience in public and private sectors of fire prevention and fire protection, where he has owned and operated a fire protection company, worked for a fire protection engineering firm, and served multiple fire prevention bureaus.  Mr. Eschner also serves as a member of the NFPA advisory group for the Certified Fire Plan Examiner (CFPE) certification.
